Partner Visas

Visa options for partners and eligible family members of Australian citizens and permanent residents.

Partner Visa Options

Partner visas allow the spouse or de facto partner of an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

In most cases, partner visas are assessed in two stages — temporary residence followed by permanent residence. In certain circumstances, where the relationship has been long-term or meets specific criteria, both stages may be granted at the same time.

These applications rely heavily on relationship evidence, so preparing properly from the outset is important.

This pathway is for applicants who are in Australia at the time of application.

The Subclass 820 is the temporary stage, followed by the Subclass 801 permanent visa. In certain circumstances, both stages may be granted together.

A Bridging visa is usually granted to allow the applicant to stay while the application is processed.
