Contributory Parent Visas (Subclass 143 / 173 / 864 / 884)

Contributory Parent visas provide a ‘shorter’ pathway to permanent residence but involve higher government application charges.

These visas are available in both aged and non-aged categories.

Temporary subclasses (173 and 884) allow applicants to transition to permanent residence (143 or 864) at a later stage.

Key Features Include

Non-contributory visas involve lower government charges but significantly longer processing times.

The Subclass 103 is generally lodged offshore.

The Subclass 804 is available to eligible aged parents who apply onshore.

Both the business role and the nominee’s eligibility should be properly assessed before proceeding.

The appropriate pathway depends on age, location at time of application, financial considerations and long-term intentions.

The Subclass 870 visa allows parents to remain in Australia temporarily for up to 3 or 5 years at a time.

This visa does not require applicants to meet the Balance of Family test, making it suitable where more children live outside Australia than are permanently resident here.

A second and final Subclass 870 visa may be granted, provided the applicant has been outside Australia for at least 90 days prior to reapplying, allowing a cumulative stay of up to 10 years.

These pathways are fact-specific and require careful preparation to ensure eligibility is met before lodgement.
